How lead scoring works

Lead scoring assigns a numerical value to each lead based on how likely they are to buy. Instead of treating every lead the same, you prioritize the ones most likely to close — and nurture the rest.

The 6 criteria explained

  • Budget fit (weight: 2x): Can they afford your service? A lead with no budget is a conversation, not a sale.
  • Authority (weight: 2x): Are you talking to the decision-maker? Gatekeepers slow deals.
  • Need/urgency (weight: 3x): The strongest signal. An urgent problem means fast close. "Just browsing" means nurture.
  • Timeline (weight: 2x): When do they need a solution? This week vs. next quarter changes everything.
  • Fit (weight: 2x): Is this your ideal customer? Right industry, right size, right location?
  • Engagement (weight: 1x): How interested are they? Multiple touchpoints signal genuine intent.
