Ask how move-ins and move-outs reach Minol and how a mid-month resident is billed from the meter read. Since Minol installs and services the hardware, also ask how the meter data reaches the billing program, whether by wireless read or manual, and how a missed read is estimated.

Limitations and questions to ask

A meter-first vendor owns the hardware relationship, so ask what that means when something breaks. Ask the service response time for a dead meter, whether service visits are included, and what a resident is billed during an outage. Ask how new construction is handled versus a retrofit, since the install cost differs by a wide margin. Ask who monitors city and state rules where you operate and who carries the liability for a disallowed charge. On the billing program, ask what the resident statement looks like, how a dispute is handled and by whom, and whether the resident can see their own usage. Ask what the conservation services deliver in a form you can show an owner, because a leak alert that nobody acts on saves nothing. Ask how the Minol-ZENNER ownership affects meter sourcing and whether you can use meters from another maker.
