Rhino sells security deposit insurance. The renter buys a low-cost policy in place of a cash deposit and the owner stays protected. In February 2025 Rhino merged with Jetty, and the merger release describes the combined company as the largest security deposit insurance company in the market, covering more than 6 million units and 47 of the NMHC top 100. The two remain separate brands, and our database keeps a separate record for each; Jetty’s profile covers that side. The release places Rhino in New York, names Georges Clement as CEO, and names Greystar, Highmark, UDR and Morgan Properties as customers. In the deposit alternatives category the managers’ taxonomy puts Rhino in the non-pooled surety bond bucket, where each policy stands on its own.

A sourcing note before anything else. Rhino’s own site returned an access error on five pages when we fetched it, so every fact on this page comes from the merger release. Treat anything not on it as a demo question.

Who it fits

The record tags institutional multifamily only. The customer list is the pitch: large operators with lease-up targets and the accounting to handle claim payments from an insurer. The Highmark Residential head of operations quoted in the release calls deposit alternatives central to leasing and key to keeping occupancy high, which is the buyer’s own statement of why.

It fits less well for a single-family or small multifamily manager, who is not the segment the record names and whose PMS is not named anywhere Rhino’s site would let us read. That manager should start with Obligo or Qira.

Pricing

The record’s pricing model is a resident-paid insurance policy in place of a cash deposit, with no figures published. Ask what the resident pays per month, whether it changes at renewal, what the property pays if anything, the coverage cap per lease for damage and for unpaid rent, and the contract term. Since the premium is non-refundable and does not count toward a later claim, price the resident’s total premium over an average tenancy beside the cash deposit you would have collected.

Integrations

The record carries no integrations. Search results named several systems, but no page we could open confirmed any of them, so nothing is recorded. Ask Rhino for the list by name, whether the integration is native or a monthly report, and whether enrollment, premium status and paid claims reach the resident ledger. The full vendor table for the category shows which competitors name their systems.

Limitations and questions to ask

The merger first. Ask which entity the partner agreement is with now, whether a new community is enrolled on Rhino’s product or Jetty Deposit, and what changed for existing partners. The release says the combined company adds cash deposit management, renters insurance, guarantor coverage and loss-of-employment insurance; ask which of those are in the quote and which are separate contracts.

The policy second. Ask who the carrier is, in which states the policy is offered, what is excluded, and how a claim is filed and paid. Non-pooled means the policy stands alone; ask what that means for the owner in practice, and what the owner’s position is if the insurer or the vendor stops paying claims mid-lease.

The resident third. Ask what the resident is told at signing and in which document, whether the cash deposit stays available, what share of applicants qualifies, and which state deposit-law protections the resident gives up. Ask the owner’s question too: with no cash at stake, what keeps the resident paying the last month?

Alternatives

The owner-held insurance version of the same idea is LeaseLock’s Zero Deposit. The pooled bond versions are TheGuarantors and SureDeposit. Jetty, now under the same roof, is the sibling record to compare first, since a buyer will likely be offered one or the other.

AI visibility

The Index will measure security deposit alternatives when a prompt set is approved, and this profile carries no number until then.
