AI Shortlist Index — October 2026 Edition

Headline findings

Two engines answered 25 prompts in each of 20 categories, one run per prompt each, 1,000 runs in all. ChatGPT gave 500: 248 captured from the ChatGPT app between 27 and 30 October 2026 (gpt-6-thinking) and 252 through the OpenAI API with web search on 30 October (mostly gpt-6-luna). Claude, new this edition, gave 500 through the Anthropic API with web search on 31 October (Claude Haiku 5.5). A vendor's rate is the average of its two engine rates. Every number is one run deep per engine, where the protocol calls for three across at least two days, so read the rankings as a first reading rather than a result.

FilterTime was named in 95% of HVAC filter delivery runs on both engines, EliseAI in 93% of AI leasing assistant runs (every ChatGPT run, 86% of Claude's) and Luxer One in 89% of package management runs. The widest split over a category leader is in CRE facilities management: Building Engines was named in 74% of ChatGPT runs and 17% of Claude's.

The two engines read different sources. Of the links shown in the answers, 66% of ChatGPT's went to vendor-owned sites against 39% of Claude's, and 17% of Claude's went to "best software" list articles against 1% of ChatGPT's. Claude named 5.0 vendors from our database per answer, ChatGPT 4.2. For a vendor, appearing in Claude's answers depends more on being in those list articles than appearing in ChatGPT's does.

The ChatGPT answers that came through the API name fewer vendors. On the same prompts, they named 3.8 vendors from our database per answer, against 4.5 in September's app captures; October's app captures named 4.6, against 4.3. The app kept signing the capture session out, so the API answered the rest. In the ten categories where ChatGPT answered mostly through the API, part of any fall in a vendor's ChatGPT rate since September comes from the change of instrument.

The answers cited webpossible.com 147 times across 19 of the 20 categories: 104 times in Claude's answers and 43 in ChatGPT's. WebPossible publishes the Index, so each category's source map marks webpossible.com as the publisher's own site.
